I was glued to my computer last night both to see how the future of country would take shape but see if the Blue Belt would emerge last night. Not sure what I am referring to? Check out How Presidential Election are Impacted by a 100 Million Year Old Coastline. The results…
Last election…
I have also been wondering about the “blue belt”. Perhaps the correlation is geologic and historic. The blue counties have much of the richest land for growing crops — like cotton. Check the 1830’s demographics. It might be interesting to correlate pre-civil war cotton production with being “blue”. Not sure … but the pattern is striking.
Yup … Blue counties across the deep South do correlate with 1830-1860 Cotton production (i.e., there are many ancestors of an underclass there). So … does is make sense that an ancient coastline would become good agricultural land?
Very clear indeed.
Um, that map corresponds to most of the counties in the south that are majority or at least a plurality African American. Those counties are blue because they are filled with Obama voters. the correlation between good soil and Obama votes is that the highest percentage of plantations would have been there during the slavery era and many of the ex-slaves simply stayed in the area, and their descendants. Its not a theory, its a fact. Look at the census, those counties are the only ones in the south that are mostly black, and Obama won roughly 95% of the black vote.
