Poor thing. Its a bit of a design flaw with mantas, unfortunately. Those cephalic lobes do tend to get hooked on stuff, and the ensuing panic swim usually just makes it worse; what they really need to do is back up.
I believe more than one commercial diver has lost their life in the Gulf of Mexico because a passing manta hooked their surface supply or comm cable and took them for a short and fatal ride
