Something fishy is going on at Google. CNET has the drop once again, putting names like Dr. Sylvia Earle and Former Vice-President Al Gore together in the same story with Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt, against a backdrop of the new aquarium at California Academy of Science on February 2nd.
They’re teasing us, clearly… could it be the long awaited event.. dare I say it… the new big blue marble CNET’s calling “Google Ocean”?
—an aquarium, oceanographer, and a high-profile politician interested in the fate of the Earth. Perhaps this will be the announcement of Google’s work to add 3D ocean maps to Google Earth?
An invitation to the event described it only as an announcement of “the next big step in the evolution of Google Earth.”
DSN has been following this story with an almost canine anticipation, just short of the drool cup, if I may say so. Past DSN stories and links are here and here and here. Beware! Major time sink could result from clicking.
If they can get Al Gore involved in fundraising for that, perhaps there would also be a way to get him involved in funding the Beagle Project.
Mike – oh yes, that would be most appropriate since climate science will be one of our main research and outreach themes. So, who do we know who knows Gore then? Anyone?
P.S. inside info alert: can’t say anything specific but we have some inside connections in this whole Google Ocean thing. Let’s just say it’s going to be good for the Beagle Project…
@K Our people should talk. Harte Research Institute is sending a few people to this meeting, too. Maybe I’ll rig ’em up with cameras in the lapels. LOL.
