Kevin Zelnio
Kevin is the Assistant Editor and Webmaster for Deep Sea News
Kevin has a M.Sc. degree in biology from Penn State, a B.Sc. in Evolution and Ecology from University of California, Davis, and is currently an independent scientist, science writer and communications strategist based in Wilmington, NC. Prior to this, he was a researcher at the Center for Marine Science at University of North Carolina, Wilmington, studying mussel population genetics, and the Marine Conservation Molecular Facility of Duke University’s Marine Lab, where he developed microsatellite markers to study population genetics of deep sea inverts. Previous research was centered around the biodiversity, community ecology and systematics of invertebrates at deep-sea chemosynthetic environments. Kevin has described several new species of anemones and shrimp and consults with organizations on taxonomic matters.
He spends most of his non-writing time enjoying the company of his wife and two kids, running, hiking, supporting local breweries, raising awareness for open access, playing guitar and songwriting.
