TGIF – curious whale shark

To go with the whale shark news roundup this week, I thought I’d post a video from my group’s whale shark research work in Mexico for Georgia Aquarium and Project Domino.  This clip is from 2010 and shows an inquisitive whale shark that breaks from their typical surface feeding behaviour to swim down and investigate first one, and then the other of our dive team before blocking out the sun on the way back to the surface.  Its been the greatest privilege of my career to have worked with this species, these great people and that most excellent country in the course of research and conservation of whale sharks, the world’s largest fish species.
