Queen Latifah as Ursula by Annie Leibovitz, 2011
After three weeks in the field, I thought I’d ease back into my DSN responsibilities with a little fluff. To wit: Have you heard that Queen Latifah has been chosen to appear as Ursula the sea witch from Disney’s The Little Mermaid for an upcoming magazine ad campaign?
Yeah, neither had I.
At first I was feeling mostly “meh” about the idea. Then I saw the image above by Annie Leibovitz. Pretty awesome! And love the Don King wig too!
How very timely, as my undersea adventure now pits the characters against the likes of these:

wow. a single tentacle? wouldn’t that be a monofolk?
There is an enclave of mermaid witches, each with a kraken’s tentacle grafted where her tail should be. Together, they share the kraken’s powers and memories. The kraken, now an incorporeal ghost in the depths, cannot rest until they are defeated.
