They reminded me instantly of the vent snails that brood embryos in their feet (Kyle Reynolds over at MLML studies them: http://mlmlblog.wordpress.com/2009/11/22/pregnant-foot/ ) and I wonder if C. squamiferum's foot armor could be protecting babies? Though I'd have expected the paper to mention it if it were a possibility... Wild! Does anyone know how these guys reproduce?
