Super Yacht

More moving island than yacht, the WHY super-yacht is terrestrial luxury at sea.  But this concept is no  gas-guzzling Hummer of the sea ready to transform your ecological footprint to ecological tsunami.  The 36,000 square foot masterpiece is model of sustanability with a drag reducing hull, diesel-electric propulsion system, and photovoltaic panels covering~10,000 square feet of the boats surface.

“We are very interested in creating a yacht that will have a low environmental impact”, says Pierre-Alexis Dumas. “Its relationship with the sea must be respectful and easy. WHY intends to offer a new way of moving over water by creating an innovative way of managing and recycling its sources and uses of energy.” “If you want to go totally ecological, the only solution is sailing. The reality is that today, 90 % of the market is powerboats, echoes Luca Bassani Antivari. Our aim is to reduce diesel consumption per year and per yacht: 20 to 30% for propulsion and 40 to 50% for generation.”

But the sweetness of this vessel does not stop there.  It can maintain a 12 knot cruising speed even up to seaforce 4 and can make up to 4 Atlantic crossing before port call.  The promenade deck features is ~400 foot long and 10 foot wide. A swimming pool, thermoregulated by power gained from the photovoltaic cells, is 75 feet long.

  1. We’re gonna need a bigger bo. . . .wait, no. No, we’re not. Guessing this does not come with accessorized chum bucket or shark jaws mounted over the pilot house, though. Pity.

  2. This massive behemoth of yacht sucks down gas faster than the entire state of Texas.

Indeed, said it had style. Never said it had class. :)

  3. This is not a YACHT, as a yacht has sails and this monster doesn’t therefore it is a very large luxuary motor boat and no I wouldn’t want to own one, as the fees to park her in a marina will be huge and then you have the cleaning down of the hull and to pull her out of the water, would also be very very expensive.
