Please, call me Doctor

I successfully defended my dissertation thesis today at Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi.

The presentation went well, 45 minutes exactly. Following that, I was grilled for 2.5 hours on subjects ranging from species distributions to taxonomy, and from fisheries regulation to gelological history. At the end, Committee Members Drs. Ian MacDonald, Stephen Cairns, Wes Tunnell, and Committee Chair Dr. Tom Shirley each shook my hand and finally pronounced me Doctor.

“Not the kind of Dr. that helps people,”one wry mother of a colleague is fond of saying.

Special thanks to my Dissertation Committee for their firm guidance and support. Now that  I’ve been thoroughly grilled, I think I’ll go get basted. Woot!

  1. Congrats! I’ll be doing it too, REEEAAALL soon. and I love the post title, I am so stealing it when I defend. I just left my labmate’s masters defense and of course we’re partying tonight. I’ll toast one up to you, too!

    Yeah Dr. Kevin Z.

  2. Congratulations!

2.5h of grilling?! Yikes! I’m glad I don’t have to go through tthat! I should be passing my defense this Fall (if all goes well) in Belgium, but there the time is limited to 2h, including the 45′ presentation. So at max I’m looking at 1h15 grilling… and it will only be on the thesis matter.

  3. Congratulations on your achievement. I know it is a lot of hard work. Now maybe you will make more money!
